Ride Along explores wordplay to create a distinct identity and a sense of space as you progress through the many levels. The design is open to anyone and takes into account the experiences people have had. You are drawn into the space by the use of organic shapes that are an abstraction of motorways. On various levels, it demonstrates a sense of belonging and identification as well as a secure environment that embraces the novel concept of a temporary home. Embracing the idea of cozy, secure nomads’ houses, Ride Along endeavors to be a place where one feels safe, a place from which one’s strengths of character are drawn. The project developed was developed with the idea of Querencia; everyone deserves a home and safety. The project is located in Seattle, a city with some of the strictest regulations and laws for living in your car in the United States of America.

Ride Along| Safe Parking
Querencia is the driving factor behind this Safe Parking Design.
Querencia is defined as ” A place where one feels safe, a place from which one’s strengths of character is drawn; a place where one feels at home.”
Over time the way we describe homes has changed from the suburbs, city apartments, mansions, single-family homes to co-living- to more normalized vehicle residency. The influence of economy and function has influenced the ways of living and what can be called home. While projects have developed ways to reintegrate target users into Urban environments with a safe home.

Ceiling Design
The general design is guided by these three design principle concepts. Sloped paved regions in Ride Along were created to make the areas livable using platforms, positive/negative volumes and wayfinding to connect the overall narrative of the environment.
Project Drivers
Integrate vehicle residency into the Urban Environment.
Extending the life cycle of Parking Garages.
Giving security to design needs that are not currently in place for vehicle residents.
Life Cycle that would be created for a group that is not designed for.
Platforms used to level the residential spots, reminiscent to campground piers
Site Analysis
Demographics
lower rate of accessing community-based
services compared to all other survey respondents (83% compared to 92%).
(60%) of vehicle resident reported issues in trying to access services in the community,
including not having ID/personal documents,
lack of transportation
not qualifying for the service(s) they wanted
never hearing back after applying for services
Details in the community
This research project aims to create a community-based solution to the alienation felt by individuals experiencing homelessness who reside in their cars.
The community-based solution proposed would adopt the form of a ‘Safe Parking’ structure. Building on the tenets of the Safe Parking Programs that several states are now employing, which include having a secure, monitored location in various neighborhoods, affordability measures, and timed allotments.
People who participate in the programs have access to restrooms, laundry facilities, a sense of physical community, and a secure place to stay the night. I would consider how to use a three-story parking garage as a multifunctional building.
EXPLORATION
Custom kitchen dining exploration
Due to the fact that the building is sloped in half, certain places and furnishings were designed with the demands of people to walk, dine, and sleep comfortably while also having the required safety precautions.
On the sloping side of the building, the entrance seating is supported and leveled by a framework. Vans, automobiles, or tents can all be parked on a level surface in the resident zones, which all have sublet variations on stacked platforms. The design incorporates the platform repeatedly to allude to camping piers.
Artificial Skylights
The shapes in the space promote socializing and openness. A feeling in the space of always having a place to be in
Platform styled continued from the sloped areas it defines the pedestrian to vehicular circulation.
Level 7| Dining platforms
One of the main amentias that is lost when you live completely mobility is a designated full kitchen and dining table space. It seems to always be a reduced variation but at times you long for additional counter space or a new surface to sit and work at. The 7th floor houses a full shared kitchen, dining and private or public work zones. Because the community is based on that of how those who are homeless and or Van lifers the interactions with each other is a safe comfort place. The designed focuses on providing a sense of place among the noise.
Dining and community
Wayfinding
The projects visual cues to help guide and distinguish the direction of traffic to pedestrian flowing between the three levels of the 8 level parking deck.
